Oswald's Bear Ranch, Tahquamenon Falls & White Fish Bay

8/2/15

On Sunday we woke up to a rainy thunderstorm.  We didn't let the weather slow us down.  Once we got to Oswald's Bear Ranch the weather cleared up and we were able to stay dry while checking out the bears.  We got to see the owners interacting with the yearlings, which was interesting to watch.  They treat the bears like you would dogs, swatting their noses as they try and jump on them.  We got to go in with a baby cub for a picture.  Kas got to feed the bear and we all got to pet him.  After Oswald's we headed over to Tahquamenon Falls.  We walked down to check out the upper falls.  Just as we reached the platform we saw a wild bear crossing the river upstream of the falls.  I attempted to get a picture but he was a fast moving bear and was in the water swimming before I got my camera out. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and beer at the Tahquamenon Brewery.  Before heading home we stopped along Lake Superior in White Fish Bay.  Blakester had fallen asleep, but Owen got in the lake and swam around in the chilly water.

Group shot with a baby bear!

The man next to the bear told us he was checking on this 20 year old bear.  They had just moved him into the yearling pen because the older bears were picking on him.

Watching the man feed peppermints to the bears.

Love Kas's face as the food ran out and the bear moved! Notice Owen is still petting him!

We met the owner who opened the cage to pick up apples that didn't make it all the way in.

So cool to see the bears this close!

There is a bear swimming behind the tree... you can only see a black dot. :(
